Elements/ Principles: Line, Shape, Form, Value
Focus: Drawing, Contour Line, Blocking-Out Skill, Observational Drawing
Project Details
To begin the year, students were taught the basic drawing skill of blocking out. This skill helps students break down complicated objects into simple shapes, making it easier to draw. After learning the skill through teacher demonstration and a practice sketch in their sketchbook, students drew objects from observation. Art 1 students were provided objects placed as a still life, while Art 2 was allowed to bring in their own objects to draw. Students were asked to add details or shading to their project after drawing in the basic shapes. If students finished early, they were allowed to add color to their drawings.
Students learned about contour line drawings as well as the elements of art shape and form.
