Art 2 – Mixed-Media Portraits

Middle School | Art 2 (7 & 8 Grade)

Project Details

Students began by learning about proportions of the face. Then, students were taught how to use the grid method to create a more accurate and realistic drawing.

Students divided their project into at least four sections and then started creating their portraits using various materials. Students were required to use pencil, ink, some type of paint (watercolor or acrylic) and then a material of their choice (oil pastel, collage, colored pencil, etc.).

Students were taught shading skills and techniques for pencil and ink during this project. They were also taught how to blend colors using the various materials, including how to mix a skin tone with acrylic paint. Throughout the project, students learned and practiced various materials skills and techniques.

Students had choice in how they designed their backgrounds for this project.
