Focus: Landscapes, Perspective

Project Details

Students learned about the genre of art Landscapes and about the hierarchy of size, detail, and value in landscape artworks. After learning about the basics of this type of art, students picked an outdoor scene to draw. Landscapes could be real, imaginary, or from a movie, videogame, or other show.

Students reviewed the principles of design pattern and repetition, looking at examples of landscape artworks that used the principles.

After sketching their landscape design, students learned the difference between chalk and oil pastels. Students practiced coloring and blending with both mediums before selecting a material for their project.

Students drew their landscapes on a piece of black or brown textured paper. Paper was chosen based on selected material and colors in landscape. After coloring in the basic colors, students then went back into their landscapes to add details and texture.
