Art 3 – Cardboard Genre Sculptures

Middle School | Art 3 (8 Grade)

Elements/ Principles: Shape, Form

Focus: Genres of Art

Project Details

Students learned about the three main Genres of Art, Portraits, Landscapes, and Still Lifes. As a review of the elements of art shape and form, students planned a relief sculpture made of cardboard. If students wanted more of a challenge, they were allowed to plan a sculpture in-the-round. Students were required to pick a genre of art to base their sculpture on.

After designing their sculpture through sketches, students began creating the individual pieces for their sculpture. Since everyone was creating a different project, most of the production time was spent working individually and consulting with the teacher. Students gessoed their pieces once they were done, then painted or colored their pieces to finish their projects.
