Art 1 – Smaller Projects and Student Work

Throughout the school year, students completed various smaller projects, extensions, and collaborative projects. The following is a selection of some of those projects and student work.

Picasso Portraits

Project Date: October 2020

As an extension for the element of art Line, students learned about how artists use line in their portraits to create various feelings and expressions. Students learned about the life and art of Pablo Picasso, then were instructed to create their own Picasso Portrait.

Collagraph Printmaking

Project Date: January 2021

Students learned about the art and process of printmaking. After reviewing the different types of printmaking, students learned more about Collagraph Printmaking. Students sketched a design for their project first. Then, students made their printing plates using cardboard, foam, and other textured materials. Students then used printmaking ink, brayers, and paper to pull their prints.

Collaborative Art Installation

Project Date: March 2021

Students were inspired by artists Wassily Kandinsky and Dale Chihuly for this project. Each student created individual pieces for the installation. After pieces were complete, students worked together to install the work in the main hallway of the school. After students installed their class’s portion of the project, we had a group critique where we discussed the process of working together.

Notan Squares

Project Date: April 2021

Students used their knowledge of positive and negative space in addition to balance to created Notan Squares. This was a short, extension project for students to do between two larger projects.
