Pre-Lesson
Before the main project, students were introduced to form using a mini-lesson. Students created foil figures to learn about taking a two-dimensional object (stick figures) and making them three-dimensional form (foil figure). After creating their figures, students were allowed to place their figures around the classroom.
Project Details
Students learned the basics of Ceramics including the stages of clay and the full ceramics process. Students wedged their clay, then learned how to create a pinch pot. After making their project base, students learned about slabs and coils, two other clay hand-building methods. Students learned the importance of scoring and slipping their attachments, then began adding details to their creatures. Students were required to add at least three features on their monster.
After projects were fired, students painted their monsters with acrylic paint.
